Our Past


Happy’s Equipment has a story that goes all the way back to 1914, when Howard D. Happy began selling office equipment across western Kentucky. Traveling by train—and later by Model T—he introduced businesses to what was then a brand-new innovation: the typewriter.


Over time, Mr. Happy established a store in his hometown of Mayfield, Kentucky. Today, that original location is still operating more than a century later, a testament to the strong foundation he built.


Years later, C.B. Utley Jr. joined the company and was given a sales territory covering Christian, Hopkins, and Muhlenberg counties. Eventually, he opened a Happy’s location in his hometown of Madisonville, continuing the tradition of local service and trusted relationships.



In 1964, Barry Vaughn and Ronnie Vaughn began working part-time at the Madisonville store while still in high school. Under Mr. Utley’s leadership, they learned the business from the ground up. After years of dedication, they purchased the company in 1993 and continued to grow it into a successful and respected business in the community.


Today, Happy’s Equipment continues that same tradition—providing reliable equipment, honest service, and long-term relationships with the businesses we serve.

Happy’s Equipment, LLC was established in 2013, continuing a long-standing tradition of serving businesses throughout western Kentucky with reliable office equipment and dependable service. In January of 2024, the business was purchased by Jerry Osborne and renamed Happy’s Equipment of Madisonville, continuing that same commitment to quality service and strong customer relationships.


Jerry began his career with Happy’s in 2010 as a copier service technician and quickly developed a deep understanding of the equipment and the needs of local businesses. Through his experience as both a technician and in sales, he brings a well-rounded, hands-on approach to serving customers. Today, Happy’s Equipment of Madisonville proudly offers business-class copiers from trusted brands like Toshiba, Konica Minolta, and Lexmark. As an authorized Toshiba dealer, we provide proven equipment backed by responsive, local service.

Jerry Osborne – Owner


Jerry Osborne is the owner of Happy’s Equipment of Madisonville and has proudly served the local community for many years. He and his wife, Jessica, have four children—Jarret, Amber, Gaige, and Ryleigh—and recently welcomed their first grandchild, Jenna Faye.


Jerry has been a resident of Madisonville since 1986, with a brief time away while serving in the United States Army. He graduated from Madisonville Community College in 2008 with a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology and has additional training in computer hardware and software repair.


He began working with Happy’s in 2010 as a service technician and is certified on Toshiba equipment, earning the Toshiba Top Tech Award in 2012. With experience in both service and sales, Jerry is committed to helping local businesses find the right solutions and keeping their equipment running with dependable, honest service.

Paul Gamblin - Service Tech


Paul Gamblin was born and raised in Hopkins County, Kentucky, and proudly graduated as part of the final class of South Hopkins High School. He has been married to his wife, Ashley, for 25 years, and they are the proud parents of two beautiful children, Ainslee, 14, and Landon, 8.


Paul became part of the Happy’s Equipment team in July 2024. He is certified on all current Toshiba copier models and is committed to providing dependable service and support to our customers.
